Jharkhand polls 2019: Congress leaves Ranchi for JMM to fight BJP.

In the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls, the state capital Ranchi seat is going to witness an interesting tussle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition alliance.

The BJP has been winning this seat for the past 29 years and this time the JMM backed by the Congress wants to wrest the seat away.

The BJP has been winning the seat continuously for the past six elections and this time the Congress has decided not to field its candidate, but to support the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate as part of the opposition alliance.

Although the Congress workers have opposed this, the party leadership decided to support the JMM candidate Mahua Maji. The BJP will continue with its sitting MLA S.P. Singh.

In the last Assembly polls, Singh had defeated JMM candidate Mahua Maji by around 59,000 votes, while the Congress candidate lost his security deposit after getting a mere 7,935 votes.

In fact, out of a total of 17 candidates who had contested the last election, 15 lost their security deposits.

The continuous poor performance on the seat forced the Congress to rework its strategy. And, finally, it decided to support the JMM candidate.

The BJP on the other hand has been winning this seat continuously since the formation of the state in 1990.

In 1995 Yashwant Sinha won this seat, but a year later he moved to Rajya Sabha. BJP fielded S.P. Singh from this seat then, and he has been winning this seat ever since.

A senior journalist from Ranchi, Sampurnanand Bharati said: “Ranchi is one of the prominent seats in the state and so all want to win from Ranchi.

“The Congress has withdrawn here in favour of the JMM. The BJP will be aggressive to retain this seat and there is a renewed vigour in the opposition alliance after putting up their one candidate.”

The elections in Ranchi will be held during the third phase of the Jharkhand polls, for which the notification came on Saturday.

The Ranchi district has five assembly seats — Ranchi, Silli, Kanke, Khijri and Hatia. The candidates can file their nominations till November 25.The Election Commission will do the scrutiny on November 26, and the candidates have the time to withdraw till November 28. The polls to these seats will be held on December 12.

India vs South Africa: Why BCCI President-elect Sourav Ganguly will miss Ranchi Test.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President-elect Sourav Ganguly was keen to go and spend time with the Indian players as they gear up to play the third and final Test against South Africa in Ranchi from October 19, but he had to cancel the plan as he will have to be present for the inauguration for this edition of the Indian Super League in Kerala on October 20.

“Wanted to go to Ranchi, but won’t get time as I have to inaugurate this edition of the Indian Super League as I’m now the face of ISL and shot for them. So, I will be attending the opening ceremony in Kerala,” Ganguly said.

Even though the Test is to be played from October 19 till October 23, Ganguly will be heading to Mumbai from Kochi as he will officially take over as the new BCCI chief at the board headquarter on October 23.

While Ganguly has stepped down from his position as mentor of Delhi Capitals, he is set to continue shooting for the reality show Dadagiri and will also be doing endorsements.

“I will continue doing only (Bengali TV show) Dadagiri and endorsements, rest all stopped. Commentary, article writing and IPL, I’ll stop doing all this now. I’ve already quit Delhi Capitals and conveyed it to them. It’s a huge responsibility and the first task would be to form various committees by calling Apex Council meeting,” he pointed.

On his committee with ISL team ATK, Ganguly said that he hasn’t spoken to them in recent times and will do so soon.

MS Dhoni chills out with friends in Ranchi.

While the rest of Indian cricket may feel anxious and curious about his future, former India captain MS Dhoni seems to be least concerned. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman who last played for India in the ICC World Cup in England hasn’t yet called it quits from international cricket and that has kept everybody, from the administrators to the supporters, guessing. And recently, the ‘cool’ cricketer was seen chilling out with his biker friends on the streets of Ranchi.

On Saturday, Dhoni joined the birthday celebrations of his childhood friend Seemant Lohani at his farmhouse at Kailashpati on the outskirts of Ranchi. His friends gathered on the occasion and the ace cricketer was seen busy smearing cake on his friend’s face. Dhoni recently was present at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi where he met his India teammates as they took on South Africa in a Test match. Earlier this year, too, Dhoni had invited the Indian cricketers at his farmhouse after they visited his hometown to play against Australia in an ODI.

MS Dhoni hasn’t played for India after World Cup 2019

Dhoni has kept himself away from the national assignments ever since India crashed out of the World Cup in July. He went for military training during India’s tour of the West Indies and also gave the subsequent series against South Africa and Bangladesh a miss. He may be seen featuring in India’s home series against the West Indies next month and particularly the poor form of Rishabh Pant has encouraged his fans. They are even hopeful that Dhoni will end up playing in the T20 World Cup in Australia next year.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly, who took over as the president of the BCCI last month, clarified that he was going to have a discussion with Dhoni over his retirement issue. Ganguly also conceded that the right to retire is Dhoni’s personal one.

With over 10,000 runs in the 50-over format, Dhoni has won India the world titles in both the 20 and 50-over formats since 2007. He has also won India the Champions Trophy besides a multilateral ODI tournament and bilateral T20I series in Australia.

Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi, successfully conducted the second day of the first edition of the leadership talk and industry-connect series ‘SAMAGAM 1.0: Tryst with the Business Leaders’ on a high note.

Yesterday, on Nov 9th, 2019, Marques, the marketing club of IIM Ranchi, inaugurated the three-day summit by inviting industry expert and marketing maestro Dr. Kushal Sanghvi, Business Head at Reliance Entertainment and Digital, to share his thoughts and experience with the students.

Today’s event covered the latest trends and innovations in all three business domains – Finance, Operations, and Strategy, and was conducted jointly by the respective clubs of IIM Ranchi.

The three-day event saw six industry leaders from various strata of the corporate world impart their knowledge and share their experience with the students of IIM Ranchi. ‘Samagam,’ an annual event, is aimed at connecting the budding minds with stalwarts from the industry and engaging the students with the current advancements and trends by making them aware of the risks, challenges, and opportunities in the field of business and entrepreneurship.

Operations and consulting clubs of IIM Ranchi – Sankriya and Conundrum respectively– conducted multiple sessions with the guest speakers Mr. Paresh Bhagwatkar, Vice-President, Reliance Industries and current head of digital supply chain Digital Transformation in Petchem division, Mr. Anubhav Prashant, COO- Apollo Cradle & Apollo Fertility, Mr. Sagar Amlani, Vice President, Fenoplast Limited, and Mr. Pankaj Kumar, CEO at Vyapt Consulting. Sankriya, the Operations and General Management club at IIM Ranchi, launched its first-ever business conclave with the theme “Technological Development in Operations Management.” Each speaker presented his views along with a presentation (20 minutes) followed by a Q&A session (10 min).

The presentation focused on the advent of technology and the impact it has made in the industry. Mr. Paresh Bhawatkar talked about cloud computing, and the disruption in the field of business caused due to the threats from asymmetric competitors. Mr. Anubhav Prashant, in his presentation, talked about the evolution of needs with the changing technology, while Mr. Sagar Amlani kept his presentation extremely interactive as he talked about how to create business excellence by actually caring about the real needs of people.

Mr. Pankaj Kumar talked about the fast-growing ‘Gig Economy’ in the Indian context and ways and means to turnaround businesses by efficient consulting through the use of technology and networking in India. After completion of all the keynote speeches, a panel discussion of 30 minutes was conducted with all four speakers pitching in the discussion by sharing their ideas and opinions. The event was moderated by Ms. Vijaya Dixit, Assistant Professor at IIM Ranchi.

The interaction with the industry stalwarts continued as the Finance Club of IIM Ranchi, Finopsis brought on-board the Finance Prodigies Mr. Harshit Gupta, AVP, Royal Bank of Scotland, for an interactive session with the students of IIM Ranchi and endowed them with his industry expertise and prowess in the field of financial risk management. Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi organized its annual ‘HR Conclave 2019’, the flagship event of HiRe, the HR Club of IIM Ranchi, on 10 November 2019. The event was held at Aryabhatta Auditorium, Ranchi University. Ever since captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni (ex-captain now) exploded onto the scene of Indian cricket, many of those visiting this capital of the comparatively younger state of Jharkhand, also try to catch a glimpse of the dynamic cricketer’s house. Ranchi now has become almost synonymous to Dhoni and his growing up years, especially after the release of his Bollywood biopic in the year 2016.

However, Ranchi was already famous before MS Dhoni in the eyes of tourists for various reasons. Before the Indian Independence, it was considered a hill station and even after it, because of its salubrious climate, people flocked to it in search of better health. Ranchi is a part of the Chota Nagpur hilly tracts and this region was ruled by the Nagvanshi Dynasty who supposedly started their rule from the early years of the Christian era till the time they became tributaries to the British East India Company who reduced them to the status of Zamindars.

The last Nagvanshi, Maharaj Lal Chintamani Sharan Nath Shahdeo, died in the year 2014 (he was an MLA too). Another curious trivia about this place is that its name has supposedly come from the tribal Oraon word for bamboo stave, which a farmer used against an evil spirit who shouted ‘archi’ in pain which later corrupted into Ranchi. This is a legend though. In the 21st century, Ranchi is an ever growing bustling city and a very interesting one with all its commercial potential and numerous tourist attractions. Here are some of its main tourist attractions:

McCluskieganj: Anybody who has seen the hauntingly brilliant movie ‘A Death in the Gunj’ (2017) which was directed by Konkona Sen Sharma (her debut as a director), wouldn’t ever forget the images of this place shown in the movie. The small hilly town is situated around an hour and a half’s drive from Ranchi and named after Ernest Timothy McCluskie who founded it for the Anglo-Indians. This place with its old mansions and peaceful surroundings is something where time has stood still forever. It has a charm of its own and highly recommended for any traveller who is visiting Ranchi. A couple of days in McCluskieganj might rejuvenate the spirit with its unspoilt air and old settings.

Patratu Ghati or Valley: Patratu Ghati is a beautiful valley which can be reached through its winding streets covered in lush green vegetation. This green valley is also the location of a famous dam and as per local people there, it is also the place where numerous Hindi and regional movies have been shot. Well, that’s not a surprise as the valley is really beautiful and can be reached in an hour’s time from Ranchi city centre.

Tagore Hill: Tagore Hill is a view point now in Morabadi with breath-taking vistas of sunrises and sunsets. As the name suggests, this place is of course related to the Nobel laureate Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. His house atop the hill, which was originally built by one of his brothers, can be visited now. It is said that Rabindranath Tagore used to enjoy the views all around from this hill, which also inspired him to pen down many of his famous works. This is a very interesting place in Ranchi to make a visit.

Hundru, Dassam and Jonha Waterfalls: Ranchi is sometimes called the City of Waterfalls, and of course not without a reason as this place has access to numerous waterfalls. Three of the most famous ones are the Hundru, Dassam and Jonha. These waterfalls are best visited right after the Monsoon season. Hundru is created on the course of the river Subarnarekha and people say that it is one of the most spectacular waterfalls. Dassam Falls has been created by a tributary of the Subarnarekha called Kanchi. Jonha Falls is also called by the name of Gautamdhara as there is a Buddhist shrine nearby. These there waterfalls are a visit must for tourists.

There are other numerous attractions of Ranchi – like the beautiful JSCA International Cricket Stadium – the home ground of MS Dhoni, a 150 plus km drive to the nearby hill station of Netarhat, Ranchi Rock Garden etc. It is definitely one of the most attractive cities of Eastern India.

Ranchi water bodies to get monthly care.

The water bodies of Ranchi will be cleaned every month, the civic body has decided.

Taking lessons from the difficulties in cleaning water bodies during festivals, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has issued a directive for monthly cleaning instead of the existing norm of cleaning the more than 40 water bodies in the 53 wards only during Durga Puja and Chhath, once a year.

“We have issued directive to all the ward supervisors to ensure that cleaning of the water bodies undertaken prior to Chhath earlier this month is maintained,” said RMC commissioner Manoj Kumar. “The ward supervisor has to arrange for cleaning of water hyacinth and garbage on a regular basis every month and submit report. The councillor (elected representative) of the specific ward has also been requested to monitor that the cleaning is done satisfactorily and any issues should be raised promptly with the RMC’s health officials.”

The RMC had to face difficulties in cleaning water hyacinth and garbage from the major water bodies prior to Chhath this year due to rains and after a lot of efforts the lakes were cleared of garbage and the green growth.

As per the directive issued on Thursday, ward supervisors would take help of safai (cleanliness) workers in cleaning the water bodies every month and if the cleaning requires more effort they can repeat the cleaning every fortnight.

“The decision was taken after difficulties in pooling in huge number of workers and tractors to clean the water bodies of puja paraphernalia, garbage and water hyacinth from the water bodies with very few days left for the festivals and we had to literally work day and night. Now regular cleaning will make our task easier and we have to clean only puja paraphernalia after festivals,” an RMC official said.

Some of the major water bodies include Bada Talab, Tetartoli pond, Jail Talab, Chadhri pond, Button Talab, Hatania Talab, Kanke Lake etc.

The RMC is also planning to set up specific points near the lakes where puja paraphernalia would be thrown instead of being chucked in the lake.

“This will be known as visarjan kund near the water bodies. It would be specially barricaded points near the water bodies where devotees can drop puja paraphernalia before immersion of idols in the lake. We will be putting up notice boards informing people about these specific spots so that the entire water bodies are not polluted,” said RMC health officer Kiran Kumari.

The civic body also plans to hire a private agency for mechanised dredging and cleaning of water hyacinth from big water bodies.

“We will be hiring a private agency for clearing water hyacinth and dredging of the big water bodies as it is very difficult to remove water hyacinth from the water bodies manually. The selection process will take place after the assembly polls,” said RMC CEO Manoj Kumar.

Mob lynching in Jharkhand: Mubarak becomes latest victims of lynchings.

Ranchi: Mubarak Ansari, 48, becomes 22^nd mob lynching victims in Jharkhand. While Akhtar Ansari, 26, has managed to live on, despite receiving serious injuries from a mob thrashing. He is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bokaro district of Jharkhand.

Mubarak and Akhtar were accused of stealing a battery from a truck in Govindpur colony of Bokaro. The two accused hail from a village closeby. On Nov 5, the duo was intercepted by the owners, in Govindpur, when the they were allegedly whisking away a truck battery. Following which the owners invited many more resident, who tied Mubarak to a pole and began to mercilessly beat the two.

“We were mercilessly beaten from midnight to early morning of Nov 6. Only when some villagers of my village crossed by and identified us, that they called our village Sadar (local committee president), who informed the police,” said Akhtar in written complaint to the police. Akhtar, is at present undergoing treatment, also mentioned in the FIR that Mubarak succumbed to the injuries that he sustained due to mob lynching.

Like other lynching case, in this case too, the entire episode of Mubarak and Akhtar being lynched was recorded on camera. Female voices could also be heard inciting the mob and also demanding for a compensation.

Bokaro police has arrested four accused in this lynching case. Interestingly, in this case one of the arrested accused is a woman, who has been named in the FIR lodged by Akhtar.

The lynching of Mubarak is the latest one in the long list of at least 22 victims of lynching cases that has taken place in Jharkhand under Raghubar Das led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. People have been lynched sometimes on the basis of alleged stealing charges, sometimes for transporting beef and cows and sometimes for child lifting or theft. And mostly Muslims or members from the scheduled tribe (tribals) and scheduled caste (dalits) have been victims of these heinous crimes that have been taking place in Jharkhand, over these three years.

A recent case of Tabrez Ansari was highlighted across the world and the issue was even raised in United States and in its Security Council.

However, only in two cases (Alimuddin Ansari of Ramgarh and Mazloom Ansari of Latehar), conviction of the accused took place at the lower courts.

While it is well known to every that killers of Alimuddin are on bail now and have even been felicitated by the Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha.

Jharkhand Assembly polls: Congress-JMM seat-sharing talks in final stages; announcement likely today in Ranchi.

Seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for the Assembly election are in final stages and an announcement is likely on Friday, sources said.

The Congress, JMM and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are attempting to form an alliance to defeat the ruling BJP in the five-phase election in November-December in the eastern state.

According to sources, deliberations are on between senior leaders of the Congress and the JMM for finalising the seat-sharing agreement and an announcement is likely to be made in Ranchi on Friday.

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Rameshwar Oraon and Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam met JMM chief Hemant Soren.

Sources said the JMM is likely to be the leading partner in the alliance and will contest on more than 50 percent of the seats.

The Congress may settle with 25-30 seats in the 81-member Assembly, leaving the rest for smaller allies.

The Congress had contested on all seats in the last Assembly election in 2014, it may settle for 25-30 seats as part of the alliance.

The Congress has already held preliminary discussions on its possible candidates for the election at a meeting of the party’s screening committee.

Another meeting of the screening panel will be held on 9 November. On the same day, a meeting of the central election committee chaired by Sonia Gandhi will be held to finalise the list of candidates.

Sources said the Congress is unlikely to succeed in its efforts to form a grand alliance with the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) of Babulal Marandi deciding to go it alone in the election.

The Left parties are also unlikely to be a part of the alliance as their demand for seats are unlikely to be met, sources said.

The Left has two members in the current Assembly, while the Congress has six.

Sources add that the RJD is likely to settle for around 6-7 seats as part of the alliance, even though Lalu Prasad Yadav’s outfit has been demanding 14-15 seats.

“Our aim is to remove the Raghubar Das-led BJP government… The Congress and its partners will try to fulfil the dreams of people of the state that have not been fulfilled so far,” RPN Singh, the Congress party in-charge of Jharkhand affairs, told PTI.

Asked if the Congress was willing to play second fiddle to JMM in the state, he said that when there is a coalition, all allies contest as a family to accomplish the dreams of the people of Jharkhand.

Singh said the Congress would soon come out with a manifesto of its own, besides having a common minimum programme with the JMM.
