Bihar raises entertainment tax on DTH

PATNA: To augment tax revenue, the Bihar Government has increased the entertainment tax on DTH from Rs 15 a month per connection to 15 per cent of the whole package.
A notification to this effect was issued last week, official sources said on Monday.
“The move is aimed at augmenting our tax revenue, but it will not affect the general DTH users with low-cost packages in a big way,” sources said.
The increased tax base will help implement development plans on the pattern of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, where more revenue is generated by imposing tax on DTH, they said.
People using cable television connections have been spared from the hike in entertainment tax. — PTI
